About the conference

Each year the Americas Regional Office of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies conducts the Annual Pre-Hurricane season Conference as part of our response preparations.

As a result of the global COVID-19 pandemic for the second consecutive year, the conference takes place virtually, this year the conference seeks, among other things, to reflect on the lessons learned in 2020 and collectively address some of the most urgent preparedness and response problems that we could face in 2021.

The virtual conference gives us the opportunity to connect the Movement, partners and donors in a unique way and allows us to reach more volunteers and communities. In addition, this space will provide us with the opportunity to reflect and report on the experiences, challenges and learnings collected from a year of pandemic, losses and restrictions with a refreshing opportunity to adapt and move forward.

Together, we act before, during and after disasters and health emergencies to meet the needs and improve the lives of vulnerable people. We do so without discrimination as to nationality, race, religious beliefs, class or political opinions.

Guided by Strategy 2030 – our collective plan of action to tackle the major humanitarian and development challenges of this decade – we are committed, in this fast-changing world, to ‘saving lives and changing minds’.

Our strength is in our volunteer network, our community-based expertise and our ability to give a global voice to vulnerable people. By improving humanitarian standards, working as partners in development, responding to disasters, supporting healthier and safer communities, we help reduce vulnerabilities, strengthen resilience and foster a culture of peace around the world.
