The Vehicle Rental Programme (VRP)

The VRP concept was introduced to the International Federation in 1997 to provide a more cost efficient use of funding and which has evolved over the years to the present very competitive structure. It has proven to be the most economic way of providing standard vehicles to the International Federation and National Society operations on a non-profit making basis.

A recent cost comparison shows that over the 5 year lifetime of a vehicle the cost benefit compared to purchasing outright from the manufacturer is in the order of 27%. If a vehicle is required for a 12 month period, then the cost benefits are even greater - in the order of 173%. Use the following link to review the comparison in more detail.

Key benefits of the VRP are:

A vehicle for the duration of the contract which does not require purchase and, therefore, has a reduced capital outlay freeing up operation funds for other necessities.

  • Budgetable Cost
  • Access to VRP Global Stocks
  • Global Third Party Insurance (subject to underlying cover) with Driver and Passenger Insurance
  • Vehicle Accident Cover via S.I.P. ( Self Insured Protection Fund)
  • Replacement of old/end of life vehicles
  • Technical and practical support in the event of vehicle breakdown and major repairs
  • Global Fleet Management support by Regional Fleet Coordinators
  • Use of FleetWave Global Fleet Management System

The Regional Fleet Coordinators work closely with the Global Fleet Base and are an important factor in the implementation of the global fleet strategy. They provide the direct operational support in terms of emergency deployment, regional fleet management, stock management, training and promotion and ongoing review and analysis of their own regional vehicle data and statistics.

Close risk management of the Fleet is integral to its cost efficient operation and over the past two years the Fleet Wave system has become operational enabling Rentees to participate fully in the programme and giving them access to valuable vehicle data.

By adopting a Global Strategy, the Global Fleet Base has been able to negotiate directly with manufacturers to obtain the best possible pricing with the most appropriate vehicle specification - between 15% and 20% less than commercial options. This price advantage benefits directly the VRP and can also be passed on to Delegations or National Societies wishing to purchase vehicles for donation.

Purchase options are not restricted to cars and are extended to include motorcycles, forklifts and generators and even motor boats.

The Global Fleet Base can also arrange for the sale of trucks from manufacturers such as Scania, Mercedes, Volvo and Mitsubishi.

All vehicles despatched from the Global Fleet can be prepared according to the requestors requirements (such as radio equipment, vehicle recovery kit (winch) or additional security.) Spare part kits and accessories are also available as well as our Heavy Duty Package.

The Global Fleet Base also supports operations in other ways by providing Driver Training and Fleet Management Workshops. Contact Goran Zuber or your Regional Fleet Coordinators for details of the next course.
